The legacy of thanks and feast, originally celebrated by pilgrims in 1621, following their first successful harvest in the new world, became a national holiday in 1863 when President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday of November as a national day of thanksgiving. And for almost 400 years that feast has remained pretty much the same – with more than 46 million turkeys being gobbled up in 2011.

Although turkeys are by far the most served on the Thanksgiving holiday, there are many popular competing dishes – maybe most notable is the Turducken – made famous by legendary football coach John Madden.

The turducken is a dish consisting of a de-boned chicken stuffed into a de-boned duck, which is in turn stuffed into a de-boned turkey. The word turducken is a combination of turkey, duck, and chicken. The dish is a form of engastration, which is a recipe method in which one animal is stuffed inside the gastric passage of another [1] .

If you've been thinking about financing a software system - or if you've been putting off installation because of a cash flow problem - Alan Johnson has five sound financial reasons you should finance before the end of the year.

WATCH THIS VIDEO NOW.

TOP 5 REASONS TO FINANCE YOUR SOFTWARE BEFORE THE END OF 2012

Receive tax credits for 2012 that won't be available in 2013. Taking advantage of IRS section 179 you can deduct your entire software purchase for 2012 in the same calendar year. The IRS typically doesn't let businesses write off big-ticket expenses like this all in one year and usually makes you spread out your deductions over 3 or 4 years. So if you made a bunch of money this year and you're looking to lower your tax obligation, finance and install your software before December 31 and you can write-off a huge expense!

Software is the #1 type of equipment most financed by lenders like Providence Capital. Most banks will not finance software because they do not consider it a tangible type of collateral (like a baler, a shredder, tractor or other heavy piece of equipment). Providence Capital will finance your entire purchase - the installation, hardware and training - all for less than 10% down!

Get financed today by simply filling out a one-page application - Providence Capital won't ask you to share your company or personal finance records with them.

Start using your software NOW and pay for it LATER. Providence Capital offers terms of up to 3 years. With Providence Capital's help, a seemingly insurmountable $15,000 expense suddenly becomes a very manageable $500/month payment - all while you start reaping the rewards of a streamlined inventory management system today.

Lease rates are at an ALL-TIME LOW, and they may not stick around until 2013. Don't miss out on an excellent low APR just because you want to "wait until later."

BONUS REASON: Get up to a $1,000 discount off of your lease only good from October through November 15th. Click THIS LINK to be directed to the finance application page right away.

Still need more explanation? We've done the math - check out THIS VIDEO using pure, simple, mathematics to show you how much you could save.

When you choose 21st Century Programming as your recycling software provider, you get quality-tested equipment properly configured and pre-programmed to work – straight out of the box. Between the time it takes to unbox, set up, network, install and run the ROM program, you could be looking at 16 hours of billable labor by an outside IT professional. Why not let 21st Century Programming handle this for you instead? It’s 100% FREE and included with your purchase of ROM.

Only 21st Century Programming can boast more than 75 years of combined professional experience in recycling, computer programming and information technology services. We have an entire team of dedicated networkers standing by to make your life easy (not some phantom splinter cell of virtual computer geeks working from a lab in Russia).

Here’s the top 5 ways our professional networking team can save you money:

5.) We deliver you the right hardware, at the right price. Because we’re a preferred partner of DELL computer products, we can get you the right price on the hardware that’s right for you. While you might be tempted to drag recycled computer parts out of your open bin and create a Franken-computer, or shop one of those no-name discount websites for an off-brand CPU – DON’T. We’ve seen it too many times – these machines break down, can’t be returned, or fry other electronics they’re networked to and cause thousands of dollars in damage and down time at your yard. Don’t cut corners to save a couple bucks. 21st Century Programming can get you the best prices on the hardware you need.

4.) We test and guarantee all equipment to be compatible with our services. Every single piece of hardware that leaves our office is tested before it makes it to your yard and comes with a limited out-of-the box support service guarantee, plus a manufacturer’s warranty. If something should go mysteriously wrong with the device, we’ll help you return it - and make sure the experience is hassle-free.

3.) We’ve got you covered with more than a dozen dedicated support techs. When you purchase the ROM software system directly from us, your system has already been tested and configured to work straight out of the box – so if you experience any trouble, the trouble shooting is on us – and totally FREE. Don’t DIY, let us configure your system to ensure its properly configured. And if we mess up – the support bill is on us! (Now there’s a guarantee your IT guy won’t give you.)

2.) WE DO IT. (not “it” – Information Technology) IT professionals are expensive, we know, we are one. So don’t go to the expense of hiring an outside professional just to install your ROM, let us do it for you. You could easily spend upwards of $3,000 on an outside IT professional to unbox your computer, set it up, plug it in and then just sit there and watch your computer’s progress bar as Windows, SQL and ROM install. But then you still have to pay him to stick around and test the peripherals. But when he’s all done – who will you turn to if you run into trouble? Your IT doesn’t know ROM. Our networking and support staff does. Turn to us as your first resource for information technology, and save yourself time and money.

1.) We are your partner in success. ROM is a sophisticated management tool with the power to take your business to the next level, and nobody knows it better than us – we built it. Invite us in on the ground level and make us your partner in the success of your business by allowing us to be your go-to resource for your entire computing environment. We do more than just build ROM, we support ROM and your entire network with a host of managed IT services to ensure you never go down and that you’re always one step ahead of your competition.

To learn more about our networking department or to ask about our managed IT services, call (562) 981-1030 or contact us by email.

Why choose 21st Century Programming over one of the “other guys”?

Anyone can jot down a laundry list of vague, single-sentence reasons telling you why their recycling software program is right for you, but we’re not just anyone – we’re the industry’s leading recycling software solution provider, and we got here by always going the extra mile for you, when the other guys won’t.

Here’s why more people choose 21st Century Programming:

The Recycling Operations Manager has the most in-depth inventory tracking capabilities in the industry, hands down.

With ROM, recyclers can track their inventory from the moment it gets weighed in, to the moment it’s bundled, barcoded and shipped out – even if it changes states! Now how many other recycling software systems say they can do that? Not many.

If you want a truly competitive edge, if you want to be able to ‘play the market’ then you need a software system that can show you more than just “what I bought, and what I sold.”

There is so much more to inventory management than just buying and selling. And this is where 21st Century Programming really stands out. With ROM, recyclers know exactly what they bought, what they paid, what’s in open bins, what’s a work in process (WIP), what their final product is, what purchase orders are outstanding, what sales orders have been filled, and what their final profit is after processing. And all this information is available in the ROM Inventory Position Report.

Advanced accounting equations that run in the background script of the ROM program automatically calculate your profits and loss during your inventory’s entire lifecycle accounting for expenses in the buyback, processing and shipping of every piece of scrap you take in or sell.

ROM even tracks scrap material you’ve sent to consignment warehouses.

So don’t let the other guys tell you their software program “has an inventory system” without defining exactly what that “inventory system” does (or doesn’t do).

Below are examples of various tags created by ROM to enable you to better track your inventory from point-of-purchase through shipping.

21st Century Programming is a company started by recyclers, for recyclers.

Brothers and co-founders, George and Dave Kane, grew up in the scrap business, working first under their father, Big Daddy Kane, who owned Harley Metals & Recycling in Los Angeles. Through their teenage years and into their adult life, the Kanes learned to do every job there was on the scrap yard floor and from there began developing solutions to the daily challenges recyclers encounter. In 2001 the Kanes incorporated as 21st Century Programming to officially launch the Recycling Operations Manager software system and quickly became a leader in the industry.

21st Century’s ‘Recycling Operations Manager’ is a proprietary software solution designed specifically for the scrap recycling business by a Microsoft-certified solution developer.

Proprietary means “privately owned; used with exclusive legal right” – as in 21st Century programming – as only 21st Century Programming has developed and is licensed to sell you this product. And as the exclusive creators and owners of the Recycling Operations Manager, not only are we familiar with 100% of it’s intricacies and capabilities, we’re working on modifications to the system every day based 100% on your feedback, so the next latest, greatest version is always just around the corner, and always ahead of the curve.

The other guys? Not so much. Several of the other guys use a third-party software provider. If you’re currently shopping for recycling software, you should investigate this and ask the provider you’re shopping, point-blank, “do you use a third party software provider?”

There are several problems you’ll run into in dealing with the licensor of a third party software product. First of all, in dealing with a mere licensor of someone else’s product, you’re subject to the whims of the product maker (not the licensor) – and if that company was to collapse – what action could you take against them? Would your data be lost forever? Or is your customer’s information being sold to unknown parties? Secondly, being so far removed from the actual software, who can you rely on when you have technical issues with your software? Are the people who are licensing you this third party software capable or knowledgeable enough to provide you with the kind of support you need, when you need it? Or are they just sending you to a call center in a foreign country? And what about modifications? Think you’re going to get modifications out of a third party provider who’s selling you a one-size-fits-all solution? Think again.

Our Recycling Operations Manger gives you a superior scale interface to allow you to weigh multiple customers at the same time.

Not all scale systems were created equal. Think scaling is simply weighing heavy and weighing light? If you’ve gotten a demo of one of the other guys’ software systems they’ll tell you they “do scaling” but what their system can’t do, which ROM can, is weigh multiple customers at a time. ROM takes splits, contamination and conversions – no waiting.

With the ROM system, let’s say John pulls in with an entire truck load of mixed steel. He doesn’t need to drop his container, he just simply pulls his rig onto the scale, ROM opens a ticket, weighs and photographs the load, and then John is off to the mixed steel bin where yard employees help separate the load and account for contamination while Mack, another trucker, hauling old washing machines, pulls his load onto the scale and ROM opens another ticket. One truck after another pulls on to weigh, and then pulls off to dump, each returning 20 – 30 minutes later to weigh light. They never exit their vehicle, there’s never any line or back up of trucks waiting to weigh – with ROM tickets can be opened, saved, closed and reopened throughout the day to finish the transaction.

With the other guys’ simple software, sellers are forced to drop their container, pull off the scale, weigh heavy, re-hook up, drive back off the scale, dump their load , drive back on to the scale, drop their container again, weigh light, re-hook up, and finally the transaction is complete…all the while, trucks pile up outside the yard waiting to repeat the process. And all the while, the in between parts – accounting for contamination, conversion and splits – are completely left out of the transaction which makes accounting for inventory difficult.

Oh yeah, and ROM is Weights & Measures certified. Any recycler found to be out of compliance with Weights and Measures is subject to jail time and or fines ranging from $250 – thousands of dollars. While not all states currently require you be Weights and Measures certified, you’re better safe than sorry.

21st Century Programming offers a better Ordering System.

Orders are simply weight and price, right? Wrong. The ROM ordering system gives recyclers the ability to account for variables such as the cost of processing or shipping (should you be billing your buyer, or want the price of your material to reflect the burden of shipping on you). In ROM, recyclers can attach special documents to purchase and sales orders. ROM also allows recyclers to schedule appointments as well as in-coming and out-going shipments.

21st Century Programming has a combined 75+ years experience in the recycling industry with an additional 50+ combined years of experience in programming and information technology.

We’re more than software developers, we’re truly solution providers. With a robust support staff of more than 30 dedicated professionals, 21st Century Programming is your very own geek squad available 6 days a week – on the phone and in-person to help you solve your IT questions. (Why aren’t we available 24/7, you ask? Because we don’t have call centers in India, but we do have real people, here in the US, and those real people are available most days and hours of the week that your yard is open.)

While the ROM support team is chiefly in place to handle calls concerning software updates, new installs, modification requests and of course, trouble-shooting issues within the program itself; 30% of calls received by our support staff have nothing to do with our product, but with the recycler’s computing environment. Our expert IT and networking departments are here to help recyclers with everything from wiring their facility, to 24-7 monitoring of their computer network.

When you partner with 21st Century Programming, you get a dedicated team of professionals who know your business inside and out and who will be with you every step of the way to ensure your life is made easy with the Recycling Operations Manager.

With ROM, one button – one push, is all it takes to send information to local law enforcement.

In ROM, your scale capture camera system, fingerprint scanner, driver’s license scanner, and digital signature pad are all connected – across the entire yard. SO from weigh to pay, you can track your customer, or track by item(s) weighed and easily organize a regulated items inventory report to electronically upload to local law enforcement, LeadsOnline or any other reporting system you’ve specified with us with the touch of just one button.

You don’t have to sort through separate file folders in order to marry photos or signatures or thumbprints with their owners – it’s all done for you with ROM, saving you hundreds of man hours and thousands of dollars every month.

There’s a lot more we’d like to tell you about ROM and why it’s the only recycling software solution you’ll ever need. Let us give you a demonstration of our product at your earliest convenience – either in your yard or over the web.
