With the ROM system, let’s say John pulls in with an entire truck load of mixed steel. He doesn’t need to drop his container, he just simply pulls his rig onto the scale, ROM opens a ticket, weighs and photographs the load, and then John is off to the mixed steel bin where yard employees help separate the load and account for contamination while Mack, another trucker, hauling old washing machines, pulls his load onto the scale and ROM opens another ticket. One truck after another pulls on to weigh, and then pulls off to dump, each returning 20 – 30 minutes later to weigh light. They never exit their vehicle, there’s never any line or back up of trucks waiting to weigh – with ROM tickets can be opened, saved, closed and reopened throughout the day to finish the transaction.

With the other guys’ simple software, sellers are forced to drop their container, pull off the scale, weigh heavy, re-hook up, drive back off the scale, dump their load , drive back on to the scale, drop their container again, weigh light, re-hook up, and finally the transaction is complete…all the while, trucks pile up outside the yard waiting to repeat the process. And all the while, the in between parts – accounting for contamination, conversion and splits – are completely left out of the transaction which makes accounting for inventory difficult.

Oh yeah, and ROM is Weights & Measures certified. Any recycler found to be out of compliance with Weights and Measures is subject to jail time and or fines ranging from  $250 – thousands of dollars. While not all states currently require you be Weights and Measures certified, you’re better safe than sorry.
